Taking your own measures isn’t difficult. This being said, we’ve heard a lot of horror stories about how wrong measurements have caused bridesmaids to have terrible dress shopping experiences. In order to make sure you’re getting the most accurate representation of your body, it’s important to know how to take proper measurements.

The best way to get accurate measurements is to have someone else help you. Have them wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust and under your armpits. Then, measure from the center of your back, over the fullest part of your bust, and around to the front. The tape should be snug but not too tight.

Next, measure your waist. This is usually the smallest part of your torso and is where you would naturally bend if you were measuring yourself. Again, the tape should be snug but not too tight.

Finally, measure your hips. This is the widest part of your lower body, typically around the fullest part of your behind. The tape should be snug but not too tight.

With these measurements, you can shop with confidence knowing that you’re looking at bridesmaid dresses that will actually fit your body type. Be sure to take note of the store’s policy on returns and exchanges in case you need to make any adjustments once you’ve received your dress.

Now that you know how to take proper measurements, happy dress shopping!
